The STEAM team and crew kicked off an exciting first day of
infusing the STEM disciplines with content-based arts experiences. From learning Algebra with a simple deck of
playing cards, to learning how to write numerals in Chinese, the students were
engaged from the start! Moving through
the morning participants experimented with color theory as they learned firsthand
about dyes that occur in nature from stones that give us blues to insect
thoraxes that turn things red (YUCK! & COOL!). They reviewed the anatomy of the eye as they each created their own color wheel eye, representing the primary and secondary colors. The morning was topped off with an engaging
lesson about states of matter, as our cups were topped off with homemade ice
cream forged from delicious ingredients and frozen with liquid nitrogen. The day was a true STEAM experience—and this
is just Day 1! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s
fun in learning!
