Today's Lead Teacher, Detective Maura Odom, took the STEAM Team to a crime scene for forensic investigation. Analyzing their own fingerprints, the students had a chance to consider their own complexity and uniqueness. Detective Fishel and Detective Burns from the University of South Alabama Police Department brought their equipment onsite to give students a firsthand look at fingerprint analysis. Following their Q & A about identification, Detective Odom directed students as they constructed their own strands of DNA (#EatScience). Ms. Youngblood rounded out the day, directing students in facial recognition and sketching.
Dr. Martin got the students started on their journeys to illustrate their favorite streets, in preparation for next week’s writing journey.
